Romans 8:11-11

During this time of the health crisis and civil unrest we see that God’s Word endures and becomes sharply clear to us. Today’s text (Romans 8:1-11) addresses our lifelong encounters between our carnal (flesh) and spiritual natures.
This text is a further expansion of Paul’s earlier commentary from Romans 6:14
(We are not under law but under grace).

As we study today’s text there are two particular scriptures which stand out:
Romans 8:1- “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,

Who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

We are now living in a time of confusion and mixed messages which leads to conflicts not only between people but especially within ourselves. During this time of crisis, we are focused on earthly concerns such as food, shelter, clothing and money to pay the bills. Our spiritual concerns and endurance are stretched thin.

Romans 8:6- “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

The Holy Spirit will guide us to clarity. This is a time to seek God’s righteousness during the darkness of judgment and self-righteousness.

The unknown is scary. Don’t be distracted. Grace will keep us focused on spiritual matters and keeps us holy. Anxiety, retribution and illness have now become our carnal concerns. Spiritually let us seek peace, mercy and healing as the answers.

We are navigating through a dense fog listening for a distant foghorn for guidance. Remember that we are in the same boat.

Stay the course.

- Amen
